Jon Bramnick’s Political Playbook

“Our message in New Jersey as Republicans has always been one of fiscal responsibility and civility,” said Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-21) in an interview with WNYC radio. “I want people to know that as a Republican in this state, I want to respect people and bring people together. And, if that message is not coming from Washington, it is going to come from me.”

Bramnick, like Kevin Bacon in Animal House, is preparing to take another beating and to politely ask for more.

Bramnick’s quest to bring civility to politics is an admirable cause. Unfortunately, there is little evidence that one sided civility wins elections.

Hillary Clinton said it perfectly last month in her interview with CNN. You can’t be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for.

Jon Bramnick says New Jersey Republicans stand for fiscal responsibility and civility.   That’s nice, but is it a winning political plan?

Say hello to the 26 Republicans in the 80 member NJ General Assembly.  After the 2019 election, there will only be 22-24, if the recent trend continues.
